By undertaking Alta's Marriage Preparation consultations you and your spouse-to-be, will have created a time and space to talk about the lasting effects of tying the knot. By setting the time aside, within your busy wedding planning schedule, you empower yourselves to take control of your upcoming marriage whilst planning your big day!
Be wise! Make the effort to consult with Alta and spend the same time on the 'marriage part' as you spend on the 'until death do us part' part!
As an engaged couple, you should take the time to discuss matters such as: family of origin, role relationships and children, one another's expectations, needs, hopes, fears and dreams, within a safe,structured space such as in consultation with Alta.
In Marriage Prep consultations, Alta will guide you to discuss the matters with each other, which define you as individuals: your habits and beliefs that will be with you when you leave the confetti on the floor and hang the wedding dress up in a distant cupboard. These are the true building blocks that a marriage is made of. The tough part is that its only through the freedom of being able to bare your soul, that a couple can create true intimacy…
Do not to assume that you both expect the same thing from marriage! You are two individuals, with unique families of origin and specific ideas. You both grew up with different parents, different role models and different views on life.
We each have unspoken expectations and silent rules that we take for granted in our personal lives, but once we choose to share our lives with someone else, it becomes necessary to share those pictures we have created. Some unspoken rules from our past may be: 'Don’t ask for help unless you are desperate', 'Downplay your success', 'Don’t work too hard or for too long', 'Never raise your voice', 'Pay bills as soon as they arrive', 'The credit card is for emergencies only', 'Pets are important'. We all are silently living by these unexpressed rules, but when we get married, our partner cannot be expected to have the same ideas as us. It is only through guided voicing of our expectations, that our partners can understand our behavior.
In Alta's Premarital Coaching consultations it is all about getting to know one another intimately whilst building trust. It is about learning to trust your partner so much that you are willing to let them know you as well as you know yourself. It is that intimacy, that togetherness and one-ness, that’s what we should spend every day leading up to our wedding day, and every day thereafter, pursuing.
